The arrest of an employee of the Ministry of Defense of the Netherlands

A 48-year-old employee of the Ministry of Defense of the Netherlands was arrested on suspicion of circumventing sanctions against Russia and sending aircraft parts to this country through an intermediary.

This has been prohibited since the imposition of sanctions against Russia after the country’s war with Ukraine, the “Nederlands Times” website wrote on Sunday. Sanctions against Russia are often circumvented by selling goods to intermediaries in third countries. These countries include the countries of Central Asia, the Middle East and China.

Despite the Western sanctions, Russia has managed to procure the parts needed for its passenger planes. The purchasing agents of Russian airlines have managed to procure the parts of Boeing and Airbus planes under sanctions in the United Arab Emirates, China, Turkey and unfriendly countries in Europe.

According to this report, ammunition and significant amounts of dollars and euros were also discovered in the house of this arrested Dutchman. The Dutch Ministry of Defense did not provide further details about the individual, and the investigation is still ongoing. The 48-year-old suspect is now in police custody. The European Union has also taken measures to suppress such actions in the 11th package of sanctions against Russia.

An analysis of customs data shows that from March 2022 to March 2023, more than $180 million worth of Boeing and Airbus spare parts entered Russia. Most of the spare parts of Boeing and Airbus airplanes are available to “Aeroflot” airlines.

Simultaneously with the sanctions on the Russian aviation industry, this country also announced the test flight of its advanced passenger plane “Sukhosuperjet-100” without using any foreign parts. The Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia announced that the “Sukhoi Superjet-100” plane made its first flight. The duration of this flight was 54 minutes and it was carried out at an altitude of up to three thousand meters and a speed of up to 343 kilometers per hour. During this flight, aviation experts confirmed the stable operation of all internal systems, controllability and stability of the aircraft in the air
